Mactan Cebu International Airport puts direction signs in Mandarin

Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) is set to reveal directional signs in Mandarin amid the rising number of Chinese visitors being received by the airport.

Known as the most widely spoken language in the world, Mandarin-written signage will provide international passengers, including Chinese nationals a seamless experience in flying with them, said MCIA authorities.

The move was done in anticipation of the influx of Chinese tourists as airlines launch more flights to China, including new routes to Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Changsha and Nanjing and additional flights to Shanghai.

GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corp (GMCAC), operator of the MCIA, said that 12 out of the 15 new flights opened in the first six months of 2018 were direct flights to China.

By improving their service to Chinese visitors, the airport is maximizing the growing traffic in Cebu, the company said in a statement.

Traveling via MCIA cuts the travel time to key destinations in the south in half as compared to flying from Manila, reported Xinhua News.

The translated signage will be present in both Terminals 1 and 2.
