17 news radars installed in Abu Dhabi roads

A total of 17 new solar-powered speed radars have been installed on the Ghabat Al Maha Road to Al Ashoosh Road in Abu Dhabi to improve traffic safety and prevent road accidents to happen.

The new speed radars were placed from Seih Al Sudairi tunnel to Al Faqa intersection in both directions, according to the Abu Dhabi Police.

“The installation of new radars on the roads is part of a comprehensive plan to improve traffic safety and reduce accidents,” Brigadier-General Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, director of central operations of Abu Dhabi Police said.

Abu Dhabi Police also said the newly installed radars would keep tabs on motorists’ behavior on the road.

The radars were already programmed to catch violating motorists like speeding motorists, overtaking on the hard shoulder and others.

“The new radars were installed at areas that were found to be more prone to violations and accidents that have on many occasions led to loss of lives,” Brigadier-General Al Dhaheri said.

The radars were already set at a maximum speed of 80kmph for heavy vehicles and 100kmph for light vehicles, Brigadier Khalifa Mohammed Al Khaili, director of traffic and patrols department of Abu Dhabi Police said.
