Pinoys most behaved motorists in Dubai – Police

Filipinos have remained consistent with their reputation for being Dubai’s most disciplined motorists.

This was evident during a presentation made by 1st  Sgt. Ahmad Mohamad Ahmad Khalaf of the Dubai Police Criminal Investigation Department’s Traffic Division at a recent forum during which he showed data about vehicular accidents involving various nationalities none of which included Filipinos.

“Filipinos get involved in normal accidents,” said the police official. Asked by a jubilant crowd of Filipinos what he meant by “normal,” 1st Sgt. Khalaf explained that those are mostly fender benders.

“Minor ones. No injuries or deaths,” he said.

Filipinos, said the police official are “good motorists who have knowledge” of road rules and etiquettes.

Asked further if he thinks Filipinos are Dubai’s most behaved car drivers,  1st Sgt. Khalaf replied with all smiles: “Yes, yes, yes, yes.”

The forum was held on Aug. 18 at the Landmark Grand Hotel in Al Rigga, Deira and was attended by top Dubai Police officials and about 200 Filipinos.

It will be recalled that Filipinos also shone at a road safety workshop held last year with the presiding official, 1st Lt. Saad Al Sabhan echoing 1st Sgt. Khalaf’s: “They are good drivers.”

“They behave well on the road. They don’t have any problems with driving. They respect road rules,” 1st Lt. Sabhan said in a phone interview. Of course, he said, there were also some Filipino violators of traffic rules, but their number is not as many as the worst drivers.

Common violations were speeding, sudden swerving, talking on the mobile phone or texting while driving, tailgating and beating the red light.
