The government may have proposed to phase out classic jeepneys, but its identity as a distinctly Pinoy cultural icon will remain.
Recently, Disney-Pixar has showcased a memoir that commemorates the iconic vehicles, in time for Cars 3 movie.
Michael Daley, a story artist at Pixar Animation Studios, illustrated the jeepney vehicle with an orange body, a blue hood, purple details, and face to allow Filipinos visualize how the “hari ng kalsada” will look like if it were a character in the animated movie “Cars”.
Disney-Pixar released the exclusive illustration to celebrate the release of “Cars 3”, which is directed by Brian Fee, the same name behind “A Bug’s Life” and “La Luna”.
Two Filipinos worked with Fee as part of the movie’s animation team. They are Nelson Bohol, set designer artist, and Paul Abadilla, sketch/environment artist, who are currently based in San Francisco, California.
Cars 3 tells the story of veteran racecar Lightning McQueen who has experienced being outwitted by younger racecars in his own game.
