Motorists caught throwing waste from their vehicles will be fined both by Dubai Police and Dubai Municipality, officials clarified as reported by local news.
“The fine will be on the driver even if another person in the car throws the waste. The driver will be fined Dh1,000 and receive six traffic points,” said Maj. Gen. Engr Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Assistant Chief for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police and head of UAE Federal Traffic Council.
If the offence is caught by supervisors from the Waste Management Department of the Dubai Municipality, the fine would reach Dh1,500. The police can impose a fine of Dh1,000 and the municipality can collect a fine of Dh500.
“We don’t have a separate fine for littering from a car or moving vehicle. It is included in the general fine for getting rid of waste in public places improperly,” Abdul Majeed Abdul Aziz Saifaie, Director of Waste Management Department at Dubai Municipality explained.
Throwing garbage, including cigarette butts, is a punishable offence under the amended UAE Federal Traffic Law that took effect last July 1.
