Abu Dhabi rolls out hygiene check on salons

Officials at the Capital seized dozens of expired cosmetics and herbal mixtures during inspections to 72 beauty salons in Khalifa City and Mohammed bin Zayed City; seven beauty establishments were referred for legal action for falling short on health standards.

Five violations were handed down while 78 cosmetic packets and herbal mixtures were confiscated for failing to meet health regulations, reported The National.

The confiscated materials included beauty creams, fragrance sprays, hair fixers, expired materials, body care products, shoddy cosmetics, hair dyes, bath oils and other items.

Businesses were warned against ear candling, an alternative medicine practice that is banned in beauty salons and can harm the eardrum or cause ear canal inflammation. The practice can only be carried out in specialized medical clinics, the municipality said.
