DOJ gathers “workable intel” on ex-lawmaker Zaldy Co’s movements in Europe

Philippine authorities are starting to piece together the movements of former congressman Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co across Europe, with the Department of Justice (DOJ) confirming it has obtained initial “workable intel” following coordination with Czech counterparts.

DOJ Acting Secretary Fredderick Vida said the Philippine delegation has begun reconstructing how reports surfaced about Co being sighted and encountered by authorities in the region.

“We’ve gained some workable intel kung paano nangyari… so we will build on that,” Vida told reporters in Prague on April 26.

According to Vida, the team now has a clearer picture of the developments that led to Co’s reported presence in Europe.

“Medyo mas maliwanag na mga detalye at datos kung paano nangyari,” he said.

The DOJ is currently validating the information ahead of a scheduled meeting with Czech authorities, where Philippine officials are expected to seek further clarification.

“Marami po tayong mga bagay na lilinawin at iba-validate yung mga impormasyon,” Vida added.

He emphasized that the ongoing effort is focused on reconstructing the sequence of events surrounding Co’s movements and determining the next steps under applicable legal processes.

“Basically we’re studying everything,” Vida said.

While declining to disclose specific details due to ongoing validation and coordination protocols, Vida assured that the Philippine government would not return home “empty-handed” from the trip.

Authorities are expected to continue verifying information in the coming days as engagements with Czech officials proceed.
