Two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were killed in a shooting incident involving their employer in Beirut, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed.
The victims, both household service workers assigned to the same residence, were fatally shot during a hostage situation on April 15.
Authorities have since arrested the employer, who remains in police custody while formal charges are being prepared.
The DMW said it is working closely with the Philippine Embassy in Lebanon and local authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and the filing of appropriate cases.
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac has ordered the immediate provision of assistance to the victims’ families.
DMW Undersecretaries Bernard Olalia and Felicitas Bay are scheduled to personally visit the bereaved families to extend condolences and assure them of government support.
The agency said aid will include repatriation arrangements and access to benefits for the families of the slain workers.
The Philippine government reiterated its commitment to pursuing justice for the victims.
