The Department of Justice confirmed that former Negros Oriental Representative Arnie Teves has been placed under house arrest in Timor Leste.
“That’s what we heard from Timor Leste as well,” DOJ Undersecretary Raul Vasquez said in an ABS-CBN report.
The DOJ maintained that the extradition case against Teves is still on-going.
Teves is tagged as the mastermind to the killing of former Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.
Last week, Teves’ lawyer Ferdinand Topacio claimed that Teves was released by Timor Leste authorities.
But the DOJ said it was a procedural release and Teves was “re-arrested” and taken into custody by local cops “to continue to stand trial for his…extradition.”
