As many as 113,000 counterfeit items for 13 brands that carried the market value of AED 750,000 were recycled to combat piracy in Dubai.
The Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) department at Dubai Customs recycled the goods which included The bags, clothes, mobile phones, headphones, and cosmetics to help brand owners get rid of copied products without affecting the environment.

The Dubai Customs said that the IPR department works closely with different partners to curb counterfeiting in line with The Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS).
Yousef Ozair Mubarak, Director of IPR department said that the damage caused by counterfeit goods to the economy, environment, and even “perhaps our overall quality of life” was huge. (AW)
