The United Arab Emirates conducted its first ever pancreatic transplant to a young woman who was suffering from Type 1 diabetes.
She also received a new kidney during the five-hour procedure at the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD).
The procedure is expected to treat the woman’s kidney while the new pancreas will remove the need for insulin injection.
The transplant is considered a milestone at the UAE.

For patients who have been living with the need to inject insulin every day, that feeling of liberation can be truly profound,” the lead surgeon, Dr. Luis Campos said in a report on Gulf News.
The operation is the 1000th organ to be transplanted in UAE. (TDT)
