Allen Luzon, a second-year BS Psychology student, has been an avid book collector for many years.
The student from Baguio started saving money from his allowance and grew his book collection from thereon. He even had a dedicated bookshelf where he used to keep the books that he has treasured over the years.
However, when the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic struck, he was forced to part ways with his books after he decided to sell them to purchase a gadget that he needs for his online classes.

He knew asking money from both of his parents wasn’t an option since both of them lost their jobs during the pandemic.
“Ilang linggo ko rin pong pinag-isipan kung ibebenta ko pa ba yung libro ko…Dahil sa pandemya, wala pong trabaho ang aking magulang,” said Luzon in an interview with ABS-CBN’s Bayan Mo, Patrol Mo.
He admits that he felt helpless when he had to part ways with his books, but he prioritized attending his classes so that he would soon earn money to begin his book collection once again.
“Bagama’t labag sa aking loob, wala na akong nagawa kundi pakawalan ang mga kwento sa pahina na naging parte na ng buhay ko,” said Luzon.
Luzon had since purchased a tablet that would now prepare him for the opening of classes in a few months’ time.
