Manila – Two C-130 planes of the United States Air Force (USAF) arrived evening of Sunday to help in the ongoing relief, rescue and retrieval efforts for the victims of Super typhoon Yolanda (international codename: Haiyan) in many devastated areas of Eastern Visayas.
Colonel Miguel Okol, Philippine Air Force (PAF) Public Affairs chief said that the two USAF C-130 cargo planes arrived late evening on Sunday, loaded with relief and rescue equipment which will be used in the ongoing operations for the typhoon-hit towns in Eastern Visayas, particularly in Tacloban City.
Also, three PAF C-130 planes are continuously flying from Manila to Tacloban and back, with an average of two to three flights per day to transport relief items as well rescue and medical team.
Meanwhile, a Philippine Coast Guard vessel is already on its way to Iloilo to deliver relief goods at various designated command posts.
Commander Geny Basilio, director of the Coast Guard Action Centre in Manila, said that BRP-Nueva Vizcaya finished loading relief items in Zamboanga City and expected to arrive in Iloilo in the next 36 hours.
The Philippine National Red Cross through its communication officer Allison Lopez said that their staff were forced to relocate since their office in Tacloban was severely damaged due to the typhoon’s wrath.
