The Philippine National Police (PNP) has fined and issued warning to almost 70,000 people who were caught violating the curfew imposed in connected to the Enhance Community Quarantine, which is part of government efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Philippine Star reported.
Out of the 69,000 offenders, 17, 039 were repeat offenders; 3,777 were fined for violating the policy and 48,273 others warned not to repeat the offense, said Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, PNP deputy chief for operations.
Earlier, the PNP said curfew violators would no longer be arrested but due to the number of offenders and the appeal of local government executives the offenders were detained.
As of March 31, Tuesday, the Department of Health reported that 2,084 COVID-19 positive patients nationwide with 88 deaths, and 49 have recovered from the disease.
