Pinoys in Tripoli told to avoid or evacuate areas close to fierce fighting

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) through its Philippine Embassy in Tripoli, Libya has reiterated its call to Filipinos there to avoid and immediately evacuate areas close to where fighting is taking place.

The appeal came after the evacuation of eight Filipino nurses last week  from a clinic near where intense clashes have taken place.
In a statement released yesterday, Chargé d’Affaires Elmer Cato said they are ready to assist other Filipinos in relocating them to safer areas so long as the situation on the ground would allow rescue teams to reach them.
There were more than 20 Filipinos that were already evacuated from their residences in Salahuddin District and are now staying with relatives and friends.
Cato added the embassy will continue to provide temporary shelter to Filipinos displaced due to the ongoing clashes.
It will also continue to assist Filipinos who may want to avail of repatriation.
So far, there were three Filipinos who requested assistance in returning to the Philippines since the start of the year.
There were a total of 149 repatriated last year.
