Tourists and residents in Abu Dhabi have something to look forward to next year.
The National Aquarium at Al Qana, which measures 7,000 square meters, is now 70 percent complete, officials said.
Gulf News reported that, once open, the aquatic facility will be home to some 33,000 marine creatures with 80 marine experts and specialists who will be leading its operations.
It will feature themed zones of learning, which will allow visitors to know more of the conservation efforts needed to protect planet Earth.
The aquarium, which is set to fully open by the end of 2020, will have a whole department that will cater to 50,000 school children per year for their learning visits at the site.
Guests will also get the chance to learn about 250 species from the tropical waters of the Pacific and freshwaters of the Amazon to the frozen ice caps of the Arctic and the caves of Mediterranean.
Paul Hamilton, general manager of The National Aquarium, the facility will also open doors for the people in the UAE to understand the marine world and how they can help protect it.
Some one million people are expected to visit the aquarium, officials said.
