Cherie Gil has just revealed to the public that she too, has faced rejection in a project during her early years in showbiz.
Gil, who’s now part of the StarStruck Council – the panel of judges for the newly-launched StarStruck Season 7, said that she’s able to relate to the rejection that latest batch of those who are trying their luck to be in the limelight.
“Yes, nasubukan ko na rin ang mag-audition. I was fourteen years old when I remember auditioning for this musical titled Sinta. Sinamahan pa ako ng mommy ko [Rosemarie Gil] when I auditioned sa Sampaguita Studios,” shares Gil as per a report from Pep.ph
She furthered that even if her mom was already a star – that didn’t secure a spot for her in the entertainment scene back then. “I didn’t get it kasi I was too young daw for the role. Siyempre, medyo disappointed ako when I didn’t get picked. Sabi ni Mommy sa akin, gano’n talaga. Hindi porke’t anak ako ng artista, ako ang pipiliin,” recounts Gil.
One of Gil’s shining moments was when she built up her angst towards Sharon Cuneta’s character in the iconic scene of the movie “Bituing Walang Ningning” with that ends with the lines “You are nothing, but a second rate, trying hard, copy cat!”
Advice for young blood
Gil advised the contestants of the upcoming show that they shouldn’t lose hope in case that they wouldn’t be successful in their bid to be hailed as the season’s winners.
“Nakaka-relate ako sa mga batang ito kasi pinagdaanan ko rin ang mag-audition at yung ma-reject ka at matalo. But I want to tell them na if ever they don’t win, it’s not the end-all and be-all of their life. God may have other plans for you, di ba? Just keep on going, believing in your dreams and it will someday take you where you are supposed to be,” shares Gil
