IN PHOTOS: Manila Subway expected to look like Singapore MRT

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) released photos of the Metro Manila Subway which is part of the government’s Build, Build, Build program.

Based on the photos showed by the transportation department, the Philippines is close to having a world-class subway rail system that can be compared to those in Hong Kong and Singapore.

DOTr secretary Arthur Tugade assured Filipino commuters that the country’s first-ever underground rail system will be finished in at least three years.

“When we announced that we are doing the Subway, many sectors did not believe. Sabi nila, ‘Subway station? Drawing lang ‘yan. Hindi totoo ‘yan.’ Sa mga nagduda, ang Subway Station po ay totoo. Ito ang magbibigay sa ating mga Pilipino ng comfortable life,” Tugade said.

It can be recalled that government officials broke ground on the Metro Manila subway on Wednesday, February 27.

The multi-million subway project is envisioned to become a 36-kilometer underground mass transport system starting at Valenzuela and ending at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

It will link major business districts and government centers and is expected to serve more than 300,000 passengers daily.

“Sa bilis nitong 80kph, aabutin na lang nang 31 minuto ang biyahe mula Quezon City patungong NAIA Terminal 3. Incredible din ang connectivity ng Metro Manila Subway dahil magkakaroon ito ng apat na Common Stations na konektado sa LRT at MRT. Accessible din mula sa mga istasyon ng Subway ang mga land-based transport tulad ng bus, taxi at jeepney,” DOTr said on their social media accounts.

The government earlier said that the first three stations, Mindanao Avenue-Quirino Highway, Tandang Sora, and North Avenue, are set to open in 2022.

The first phase of the subway system will traverse Quezon City to Taguig City with 13 stations. The subway’s proposed stops are: Mindanao Avenue, North Avenue, Quezon Avenue, East Avenue, Anonas, Katipunan, Ortigas North, Ortigas South, Kalayaan, Bonifacio Global City, Cayetano Boulevard, Food Terminal Inc. (FTI) and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) earlier said that they are making arrangements with one of the biggest Japan-based construction companies, Shimizu Corp., to improve the country’s public transportation.
