Date of UAE Flag Day announced

The Ministry of Cabinet and the Future has issued a circular announcing that celebrations for the UAE Flag Day will take place on Thursday, November 2.

Flag Day, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, in November 2013, is a national campaign to commemorate the accession of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

“It is a day of celebration, reflecting a symbol of unity, patriotism and loyalty to the UAE and its wise leadership, and adherence to the values of the union established by the UAE’s Founding Fathers,” the circular read.

While it is not a public holiday, residents and expats alike in the UAE, can expect to see flags all over the country – at malls, streets, beaches, and many more.

Last year, about 4,000 flags were arranged at the ‘The Flags Garden’ at Kite Beach in Jumeirah.

The Burj Khalifa has also taken part in the celebrations, lighting up in the colors of the UAE flag.
