The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) identified an unnamed Filipino as the alleged suspect in the death of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) whose skeletal remains were found in a septic tank in South Korea.

Foreign affairs secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said South Korean authorities have identified a former OFW, who is believed to be in the Philippines already, as the suspect in the crime.

The authorities have also sought the help of the Philippine National Police and the Interpol to locate the suspect.

Cayetano added the identity of the victim has been identified through DNA testing.

“Sa tingin ko, ma-expedite na yan. Because number one, yung identification. Kasi ayaw mo naman pwedeng sabihin sa pamilya kung hindi ka sure. But the DNA’s quite good, nag-match e,” he said.

“So dahil nag-match ang DNA, pwede nang maiuwi ang remains at inaasikaso na ito,” he added.

The unnamed victim resides in Iloilo City and arrived in South Korea in 2016 to work as a factory worker.

The OFW was reportedly missing for two years before the body was found in a septic tank in April.
