UAE vows to settle labor disputes within 10 days

Legal problems that originally took 30 days to resolve can now be settled within 10 days through the introduction of new systems.

The UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MOHRE) has pledge to reduce the time needed to ensure the settlement of labor disputes with the roll out of six new initiatives.

“The initiatives will reduce the time of processing a labor dispute, starting with registering workers’ complaints at the service centers to inspection and investigation. The initiatives also will help in resolving the dispute amicably without referring it to the judiciary,” said Mohammed Ahmed Mubarak Al Hammadi, Director of Labor Relations Department at MOHRE.

The “Green Room” initiative rolls out a room designed with plants that will allow parties to discuss their dispute in a calm and positive atmosphere without any intervention, Al Hammadi explained.

Workers’ legal queries can also be addressed within the day through the “Legal Advice” initiative.

Legal consultations will also be available via the instant messaging service WhatsApp. This initiative will “help in explaining and clarifying the rights and duties of both the employer and employee before taking any legal action”.
