Saudi security forces foil attack on Grand Mosque

Saudi security forces foiled an attempt to bomb the Grand Mosque in Makkah on Friday. when hundreds of thousands of worshippers gathered for early afternoon prayers on the last Friday of this year’s Ramadan.

Suspected terrorists tried to enter Islam’s holiest site from three sites around the world’s largest mosque. Police found one of the terrorists in a building in the Ajyad Al-Masafi neighborhood, behind Al-Safwa Hotel after an accomplice arrested earlier pointed to the location.

The terrorist opened fire at police before blowing himself up. The building in collapsed from the explosion. Six foreign pilgrims were also injured, according to the Saudi Ministry of Interior.

Early on Friday morning, Saudi police arrested a wanted criminal at a house in Al-Asilah neighborhood east of Makkah. The criminal led authorities to the location of the terrorist in Ajyad Al-Masafi, Arab News reports.

Another suspected terrorist believed to be a companion of the suicide bomber was arrested in Jeddah.

A total of five suspected terrorists, including a woman, were arrested in Jeddah.
