Trust the UAE when it said it will “move the mountains” to provide comfort and stability to its people.
National Advisor Bureau Limited has unveiled plans to tow icebergs from Antartica to Fujairah coast to establish a new source of freshwater in the region.
In an interview with CBC, National Advisor Bureau’s Abdulla Al Shehi said the UAE Icebergs Projects seek to capitalize the disintegration of icebergs in Antartica to address water needs.
The company said melting icebergs could discharge fresh water into the Arabian Sea, which could result in restoration of ecological balance and biodiversity in the region.
The Masdar City-based company added the iceberg project could also serve as a tourist attraction.
The project is part of an umbrella initiative called Rub’ El Amer, which seeks to overhaul Empty Quarter deserts into gardens.
