Motorists across the United Arab Emirates are being urged to remain vigilant following a warning from Ras Al Khaimah Police over the spread of fake car insurance advertisements circulating on social media.
Authorities said the scams are designed to deceive vehicle owners by offering unusually low insurance premiums, only to trick victims into transferring money for non-existent policies.
Brigadier Dr. Tariq Mohammed bin Saif, Director General of Police Operations, said the fraudulent scheme has become increasingly visible online, prompting a digital awareness campaign through official police platforms.
“This trend has prompted us to launch a digital awareness campaign through our official platforms to alert motorists to these misleading offers,” he said.
Police explained that scammers often pose as representatives of legitimate insurance firms or licensed brokers, advertising attractive but unrealistic rates to lure potential victims. Once trust is established, victims are asked to pay for policies and later receive fake documents or none at all.
Authorities stressed the importance of verifying that insurance providers are licensed before making any payments, and warned against engaging with suspicious online accounts or offers that appear too good to be true.
Ras Al Khaimah Police said it is strengthening monitoring efforts and will take legal action against those involved in the fraudulent schemes. The public is also encouraged to report suspicious websites and accounts as part of efforts to curb online financial fraud.
