COVID-19 vaccine tested in US shows promising results in clinical trial

The first COVID-19 vaccine to be tested in the US has shown a glimmer of hope against COVID-19 after eight people who participated in the safety trial, reported Reuters.
The Moderna Inc’s vaccine reportedly produced protective antibodies in a small group of healthy volunteers, the company said on Monday.
Those who received a 100-microgram dose and a 25-microgram dose had levels of protective antibodies enough to fend off the virus that exceeded in the blood of people who recovered from COVID-19.
In an assessment of Dr. Amesh Adalja, infectious disease expert at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security who was not involved in the study, “These are significant findings but it is a Phase 1 clinical trial that only included eight people. It was designed for safety. Not for efficacy.”
The vaccine was granted the second stage of human testing by US regulators, according to Reuters.
To date, scientists are trying to find out the level of antibodies that will prove protective against the virus.
