BREAKING: After backlash on Vico Sotto, NBI to invite Koko Pimentel on possible probe

The National Bureau of Investigation is backtracking its previous statement that they do not see the need to invite Senator Koko Pimentel for an investigation over his possible violation of the enhanced community quarantine protocols.

NBI OIC Eric Distor told ABS-CBN News that they will also invite the senator over his supposed breach of quarantine protocols. There was a public outrage on PImentel after he went to a Makati hospital to bring his wife despite being tested positive for the coronavirus disease or COVID-19.

The NBI earlier said that the President’s orders were to investigate local government officials who are on the ground implementing the enhanced community quarantine and do not involve the senator.

Now, the bureau clarifies that no complaints have been filed against Pimentel and Pasig CIty Mayor Vico Sotto. They are only being invited to explain themselves before the NBI, in their initial investigation of government officials ordered by the President.

The NBI received a public backlash from netizens after they summoned Sotto over his remarks on allowing tricycles despite the prevailing quarantine period.
