Thailand cures novel coronavirus patient with cocktail of HIV, flu drugs

Thailand health officials reported Sunday that a cocktail of antiviral drugs for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and flu cured a Chinese woman infected with the new coronavirus, reported South China Morning Post.
The 71-year-old showed dramatic improvement after she was treated with the combination, doctor Kriengsak Attipornwanich said during the press briefing.
“The lab result of positive on the coronavirus turned negative in 48 hours,” Kriengsak revealed.
Kriengsak said the patient was administered with treatment composed of anti-flu drug oseltamivir with lopinavir and ritonavir, antivirals used to treat HIV.
As earlier reported by state-run Xinhua News Agency, HIV drugs is used by health authorities in China to cure the infected patients of 2019 nCoV ARD which has surged to 17,000.
Thai authorities added that out of 19 confirmed cases in the kingdom, around eight patients have recovered from the disease while 11 remain in health facilities.
