Philippine Embassy in Riyadh marks 128th Independence Day

The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh commemorated the 128th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence with a ceremony led by Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Raymond R. Balatbat.

The celebration began with the ceremonial raising of the Philippine flag at the embassy grounds, attended by embassy personnel and representatives from partner government agencies.

A wreath-laying ceremony followed in honor of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, paying tribute to the national hero and the sacrifices of Filipinos who fought for the country’s freedom.

Officials also viewed video messages from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Administrator Patricia Yvonne “P.Y.” Caunan.

Messages from Foreign Affairs Secretary Maria Theresa P. Lazaro and Pag-IBIG Fund Chief Executive Officer Marilene C. Acosta were likewise read during the program.

According to the embassy, the messages highlighted the theme of this year’s Independence Day celebration, “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.”

The event concluded with the ceremonial cutting of an Independence Day cake, marking the Philippines’ 128th year of independence and reaffirming the Filipino community’s commitment to national pride and service abroad.
