LOOK: Tourists leave piles of trash in Burnham Park

A netizen appealed to visitors who flocked the popular destination to throw their trash properly.

In his Facebook post, Roland Lales Apilado, the Burnham Park is filled with trash left by tourist who flocked the summer capital of the Philippines to celebrate Christmas.

“Pwede tayong maging bisita pero hindi pwedeng maging dugyot. Baguio welcomes you with cold fresh air, please do respect in return,” he said in his post.

Apilado, who jogged around the place daily, noticed that the park is always left in mess especially during holiday season.

“I do morning jog daily at ito ang lagi kong nakikita, nadadaanan. Worst comes to worst as the season is approaching ta paadu nga paadu ti visitors tuy Baguio, including parkings nga crowded along Burnham Park and Athletic, madaling araw pa lang puno na. People leave their trashes here, there and everywhere,” Apilado said.

He noted that tourists are welcome in the ‘City of Pines’ as long as they don’t ruin the city.

“Create your memories here but never ruin the place with your trash. Let Baguio feel that Christmas is as merry as yours,” he added.

The city government of Baguio repeatedly reminded tourists visiting the major parks in the city to abide the ordinances on proper waste disposal.

The city government has implemented programs such as environmental fees, building new material recovery facilities, and garbage disposal sites to curb the garbage problem which poses a danger to environment as well as the image of the city as one of the prime tourist destinations in the country.
