Military rescues British national, wife from Abu Sayyaf group

Military officials confirmed that the Army’s 2nd Special Forces Battalion rescued the British man and his wife held captive in October by Abu Sayyaf.

“We successfully rescued Allan and Wilma Hyrons,” Western Mindanao Command Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana told reporters.

They were rescued at Brgy. Silangkan and Taha in Parang, Sulu. The rescue operations were made at the height of the intensified military operations in the area.

Military said that seven members of the terrorist group were killed over the weekend.

“We pursued, we did a hot pursuit, so it’s a convergence of efforts among our forces on the ground,” Sobejana added.

“This is has a major impact on our efforts and it will cause a huge setback on our enemies. This is a big blow to their morale. We can see they are demoralized so we need to take advantage of this,” the official said.

The couple Allan and Wilma Hyrons were kidnapped by armed men in Zamboanga Del Sur last October 4.
