Pinay OFW from China returns home with kidney, heart disease

An undocumented overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from China returned to the country yesterday.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Janet Astilla has been reunited with her family in the Philippines after they sought help.

“Overseas Filipino Worker Janet Astilla is back home with her family, thanks to the quick action of the DFA, through the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs and the PH Consulate General in Shanghai,” the DFA said in a tweet.

Astilla reportedly left her regular job in Saudi Arabia and risked being an undocumented worker in China for bigger pay.

“Lured by a high-paying job at the risk of being an undocumented worker in China, Astilla left Saudi after a 20-year stint as a regular worker,” DFA said.

Now she was diagnosed with Stage 4 chronic kidney disease and a heart problem.

“She was found with Stage 4 chronic kidney and heart disease and is now reunited with her family after her next-of-kin earlier sought help from OFW Help, a Facebook page created for emergency cases by DFA-OUMWA,” DFA said.
