9-year-old boy finishes college electrical engineering course

A genius child from Belgium has finished a college undergraduate degree at the age of 9.

Laurent Simons studied electrical engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE). The course was considered to be tough  even for ordinary college students.

Simons is expected to graduate in December. He is also planning to take a PhD program for the same degree and pursue medicine, according to his father who told CNN.

Simon’s parents thought that his grandparents were only exaggerating when they said that their child is gifted — that was  until his teachers confirmed that he is.

“They noticed something very special about Laurent,” his mother Lydia told CNN.

Laurent comes from a family of doctors but that remains to be explained if that caused his giftedness and intelligence.

“I ate a lot of fish during the pregnancy,” his mother joked as what could be the reason why her child was so smart.

“Special students that have good reasons for doing so can arrange an adjusted schedule. In much the same way we help students who participate in top sport,” a school official said

Simons is being sought by other prestigious universities around the world. He is described to be like any other kid who likes playing with his dog and mobile phone.
