Lapu-Lapu jail inmates earn a living by making Christmas lanterns

They don’t get to enjoy liberty like normal people do but they do make themselves productive.

Inmates at the Lapu-Lapu City Jail in Cebu are making themselves productive by making Christmas lanterns.

In ABS-CBN News report, an inmate, a certain Sonny, spearheaded the livelihood project inside the facility.

The project has become an annual undertaking and the inmates are expected to cash in on the upcoming holiday season.

Sonny said the lanterns have been pre-ordered by various company offices.

The lanterns’ custom-made designs are made up of cellophane, tin foil, bamboo sticks and other materials.

The lanterns are sold between P100 and P800.

The Lapu-Lapu Bureau of Jail Management and Penology commended the inmates’ initiative as it does not only make them productive during their free time but also gives a livelihood.

The inmates will be accepting orders until December 24.
