Dubai Courts help 107 prisoners pay Dh 21M++ in debts

Dubai courts have helped facilitate the release of 107 prisoners who have been sentenced by repaying their debts amounting to Dh 21,416,000, amount they couldn’t afford, through the “Yak Al Oun” initiative launched specifically for this purpose in the Year of Tolerance.

The humanitarian initiative was a collaborative effort between the Dubai Courts, Emarat Al Youm, and the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai.

“All cases of defaulters assisted and included in the initiative are financially accused and not charged with any criminal case. The Dubai Courts Case Study Committee have carefully studied and approved their cases and files to ascertain the extent to which they are entitled to charitable donations,” said Rashid Eid Al Mansouri, Director General of Dubai Courts. This came at a ceremony organized by Dubai Courts for the donors of this humanitarian project, last Thursday.

Al Mansouri mentioned that an initiative called “Courts of Good” have paved the way for the “Yak Al Oun” initiative, commending the efforts of their team, which managed to collect 13 million dirhams, with the support of Emirates Islamic Bank, Department of Islamic Affairs and Charity, and Bank of Dubai Islamic Bank, where the debts of 133 prisoners were paid.
