Abu Dhabi warns against credit card scammers

Abu Dhabi police have warned residents of credit card scammers, following its release of a phone call recording showing a fraudster’s scheme to get sensitive account details.

Over the weekend, the police posted on Instagram an audio file where the fraudster can be heard asking the target for the last four numbers on his mobile sim card, adding that if it was the same as the alleged winning number, the owner of the number would win a prize.

The caller then asked for the person’s account IBAN number or the debit or credit card number with the CVC 3 digit number and promised to transfer the prize to the victim’s account by the end of the day.

Abu Dhabi Police urged residents to be familiar with the various types of mobile scams to prevent being easy targets.

Police called on the public to immediately report such fraudulent calls to the nearest police station or by calling the Aman service.
