Man to spend 2 years in jail, pay Dh1.2 million for setting 9 cars ablaze

An expat in Dubai was sentenced to two years in jail on top of Dh1.2 million fine and deportation for nine cases of arson.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the 23-year old Pakistani man after two separate cases of arson where he burned nine cars in total, reported Khaleej Times.

In one of the cases, the man set one car on fire which quickly spread to five other vehicles.

During investigation, the man admitted that he was drunk when he committed the crime. He added that he had accomplices who are still at large.

In one of the two cases filed against him, the man was sentenced to one year in jail and and Dh426,800 fine. He will also be immediately deported. For the second case, he was sentenced to one year in jail and Dh775,818 fine.

The man can still appeal for the conviction within 15 days.
