PNPA director sacked over cadets’ lewd punishment

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Wednesday, October 24, ordered the relief of the director of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) following reports of two freshman cadets being ordered to perform sexual acts as form of punishment.

DILG officer-in-charge Eduardo Año sacked Chief Superintendent Joseph Andol after a senior cadet allegedly ordered two freshmen to perform oral sex for committing several violations at the PNP Academy in Camp Castañeda in Silang, Cavite.

“OIC-Secretary Año has ordered the immediate relief of the PNPA Director, Chief Superintendent Joseph [Adnol] for command responsibility and to pave the way for an impartial investigation into the incident,” Assistant Secretary Jonathan Malaya, DILG spokesperson, said.

DILG said that while the two freshman cadets were doing the punishment, two other senior cadets watched without stopping them. The incident allegedly happened on October 6.

Following the incident, the senior cadets have been isolated at the PNPA and are facing an administrative case and a criminal charge of hazing.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) will also conduct its separate probe.

“We should not tolerate such scandalous acts in our ranks. The PPSC should act with dispatch to ensure that the true ideals, values, and discipline in the academy will continuously be upheld,” Año said in an earlier statement.
