Two former overseas Filipino workers, Bobby Pacquiao and Dominic Villafuerte, tries their luck to be members of the congress on 2019.
General Santos City Councilor Bobby Pacquiao follows the suit of his brother and fellow boxer Sen. Manny Pacquiao as a politician. He is running for the 2019 elections as a representative of OFW Family Club Party-list.
“I was also an OFW when I fought in boxing a long time ago in the US,” the younger Pacquiao told reporters after filing his certificate of nomination and acceptance (CONA) at the Commission on Elections headquarters on October 16, Tuesday afternoon.
Sen. Pacquiao said that his brother decided to run for a higher post to take up the cudgels for migrant workers and give them better protection.
Meanwhile, Dominic Villafuerte filed candidacy as an independent candidate for board member in the third district of Bohol October 17, Wednesday.
A college teacher and former Dubai OFW, Villafuerte said that he is ready to step up to the plate.
“Armed with my educational qualifications and various experiences, I believe I am ready to serve the people of Bohol,” Villafuerte said.
The 39-year-old former councilor of Candijay, Bohol said ordinary people should be given the opportunity to serve the masses.
“People deserve more choices, public service is not only the rich and the privileged,” he said.
