Even Duterte avoids special treatment, Palace says on viral NAIA video

The Palace on Monday, October 1, reminded government officials, especially the allies of the administration, to follow airport security protocols explaining that even President Rodrigo Duterte avoids receiving any form of special treatment.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque made the statement following the viral video of ACTS OFW representative Aniceto “John” Bertiz III skipping security measures at the airport by refusing to remove his shoes and harassing an airport staff by shoving his ID to the screening officer’s face, reported PNA.

The incident allegedly happened at NAIA Terminal 2 on Saturday, September 29, where “security condition level 2” was imposed requiring all employees and passengers to remove their shoes for checking as a security measure.

“Even the President complies with the security checks of the airport. He goes through the X-ray machine and he does not ask for any special treatment,” Roque said.

“Let’s learn by way of example by what the President is doing. Hindi po humingi ng special treatment ang Presidente,” he added.

Roque said that an official statement will be released once the results of the investigation have been released.

“I would rather wait hanggang matapos ang imbestigasyon because right now hindi pa talaga natin alam ang pangyayari,” Roque said.

“We will issue a statement siguro when we have received the official investigation report from NAIA. For now, let’s defer any statement or any judgement on the incident,” he added.
