Trillanes wants Duterte’s bar exam results checked amid amnesty controversy

After the revocation of the amnesty granted to him by the previous administration, opposition Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said on Saturday that President Rodrigo Duterte’s bar exam results should be reviewed to know if the latter really passed it.

Trillanes said that the nullification of his amnesty caused him to question if Duterte has truly earned his title as lawyer, reported ABS-CBN News.

Duterte passed the bar examinations in 1972.

The beleaguered senator said that it seems that the president is not aware that, according to the 1987 Constitution, the president has the prerogative to grant amnesties, but not revoke them.

“This guy is amazingly stupid. Talagang lumalabas, he can’t hide it… Sorry sa San Beda College of Law, but I am not impressed with your product which is Mr. Duterte,” ABS-CBN quoted Trillanes as saying.

Trillanes said that someone should look into Duterte’s bar exam results because of the “possibility” that the president’s father, who used to be a governor that time, might have used political power for Duterte to pass the exams.

“Ang kailangan review-hin kung nakapasa ba talaga ng bar itong si Duterte. Baka nilakad lang ito ng tatay niya kasi governor ang tatay niya noon,” he said.

When asked if he will initiate to have the president’s bar exam results reviewed, Trillanes said, “Someday, ipapahanap natin ‘yan.”
