Japan plans on hiring more caregivers from PH

Japan is planning on hiring a great number of overseas Filipino workers to address a labor shortage in the country.

The East Asian country is expecting to experience a shortage of 340,000 caregivers in 2025, that is why they are eyeing on hiring more workers from the Philippines and two other Southeast Asian country that have bilateral free trade agreements with Tokyo, reported ABS-CBN News.

Sources have stated that Japan will be easing some restrictions on the number of caregivers from the Philippines, as well as Indonesia and Vietnam to allow caregivers to work in the East Asian country.

Japan will be hiring 300 caregivers from each country per year. The government aims to treat such foreign workers with high Japanese language skills separately from the current quota of 300.

The number of Filipino workers in Japan has increased in the past years. According to recent statistics, there are about 128,000 Filipino workers in Japan, making up at least 19.7% of the country’s total number of foreign workers.
