New airline assignments at NAIA not yet final, DOTr says

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Monday, June 4, clarified that new airport assignments at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) are not yet final.

Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Ed Monreal explained that while there have been discussions with airline companies regarding the topic, nothing has been finalized yet.

“The Department of Transportation wishes to advise the public that reports circulating online and via traditional media on supposed new airline assignments at the NAIA are NOT YET FINAL,” the DOTr said in an advisory through PTV News.

The public is advised to wait for an official announcement to be released “once all options have been studied”.

The announcement was made following reports of new airline assignments at NAIA released online and through other news outlets.

Based on initial reports, only five airline companies will be allowed to land at NAIA Terminal 1. These include Philippine Airlines, Thai Airways, Saudi Airlines, Japan Airlines, and Etihad Airlines.

Once the new assignments are in place, the NAIA Terminal 2 will be used for domestic flights while Terminal 3 will be occupied by 19 international airline companies.

Reports claimed that the new terminal assignments will be implemented starting August 31.
