A 19-year-old expat is set to spend three months in jail after a Dubai court found him guilty of sexually harassing a woman as she took a nap at a building’s reception area.
The complainant, a 38-year-old Filipina accountant said that the 19-year-old jobless Pakistani man inappropriately touched her thighs and abdomen when she fell asleep as she was waiting for a friend at the reception area of a building in Al Qusais industrial area, reported Khaleej Times.
Al Qusais police station reported that the incident took place last March 19.
“It was around 3:30 pm. I suddenly fell asleep on the couch. When I opened my eyes, I saw a man touching my thigh and abdomen,” the Filipina said.
Reports stated that the Pakistani man ran as the victim screamed, but the former came back and gestured to the woman to come with him.
“I ignored him. I reported him to the police the next day because I was then shocked and confused about the incident,” she said.
The complainant added that she did not know how long the Pakistani man touched her since she was asleep. She recounted that her nap lasted for 5 to 10 minutes and when she opened her eyes, the man was already groping her.
“He spoke to me in a language that I don’t understand. When he came back later, he wanted to talk to me but I did not go to him,” she said.
The suspect denied the charges at the Court of First Instance. However, the court decided to have him convicted and deported.
