DUBAI: It’s time to celebrate again; Sinulog sa UAE, now on its 6th year will kick off with that familiar beat and dance that encompasses bisdak’s (short for Bisayang Dako or true-blooded Visayan, Visayan-speaking Filipino) most-loved festival.
Sinulog is a part of that Cebuano tradition and culture. It has its religious roots as the feast of the child Jesus, known to everyone as Sto. Nino. This festival also commemorates Filipino’s acceptance of Christianity in the country who believed to have originated in Cebu.
Sinulog came from the native word “sulog” or “like water current”.
Known to be the grandest festival in the Philippines, Sinulog is held every third of January in the Queen City of the South, Cebu City. Other areas in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao also celebrate the festival on the same day.
This year’s festival will be held on February 9, 2018 at Al Shabab Al Arabi Club (Across from Dubai Int’l Bowling Center and backside of Century Mall). Some 2,500 people are expected to join in the full day event that will run from 8am to 8pm.
