574 aftershocks felt after 6.5-quake in Leyte

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded 547 aftershocks since a magnitude 6.5-earthquake hit Leyte on Thursday.

The last recorded aftershock was at 2 p.m., July 9, 2017, measuring 3.7 magnitude at intensity 5 which classifies it as “strong”. The epicenter of the aftershock is located 16 kilometers southwest of Ormoc City.

More than 200 people are injured and 33 sustained injuries, said Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad, executive director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, in a Radyo dzBB interview.

Jalad said that verification of all damages is still ongoing however. Meanwhile, 500 houses in Ormoc city have already been registered as damaged.
