OFWs in UAE hail iDOLE launch, OEC phase-out

The Filipino community in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) welcomed the Department of Labor and Employment’s announcement that it will soon launch the identification card for the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), called iDOLE.

This identification system intends to replace the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC), starting July 12, 2017.

Overseas Filipinos in the UAE landed on The Filipino Times Facebook account and website, expressing their excitement over the rollout of iDole.

The ID system could be used to process Social Security System, Pag-IBIG Fund, and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation transactions, as per DOLE.

Here are some comments that TFT received from OFWs.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the government also plans to turn iDOLE into a passport. A good news, indeed, for OFWs.

Bello said the iDOLE will be issued to all bonafide OFWs for free.

“Hindi na kailangan mag-apply. If you are an OFW, bibigyan ka na kasi nandoon ka na sa roster ng OFWs, so they will start processing your ID and we will give it to you,” Bello said in a press briefing.
