The UK’s parliament is under cyber attack since Friday with hackers trying to log on any email account with a weak password, to penetrate its network.
Liberal Democrat MP Lord Rennard revealed the cyber attack in a tweet to colleagues accompanied by an instruction to communicate with him only via SMS.
The parliament’s spokeswoman confirmed the cyber attack.
“We have discovered unauthorised attempts to access accounts of parliamentary networks users… As a precaution we have temporarily restricted remote access to the network,” the spokeswoman said, according to BBC News.
Remote access to emails of all MPs and other users of the parliament’s email system was disabled to counter the cyber attack and the National Cyber Security Centre was called in to investigate.
