Kins of soldiers killed in Marawi to get P2M livelihood aid

Families of soldiers killed in battle with terrorists in Marawi City are set to receive P2 million worth of livelihood assistance from one of the biggest corporations in the Philippines.

Ramon Ang, president of San Miguel Corporation, announced in a statement that the company will offer a business startup package to each family of soldiers killed in action.

The assistance seeks to provide “sustainable source of income” to families for a long term.

“The best way we can honor our fallen soldiers is to try and help their loved ones have a chance at a better future,” the Inquirer quoted Ang as saying. “For our part, San Miguel commits to provide their families the means to put up their own startup businesses. We will assist them and help their community recover sustainability.”

Ang said San Miguel Foundation will collaborate with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to set up a rebuilding program for the affected communities.

“Our soldiers deserve our deepest respect and gratitude. It’s very unfortunate that we have lost many of them in this conflict. We mourn with their families and the whole nation,” he said.

A total 38 government troops have been killed in fighting against the Maute group in Marawi City, according to the AFP.
