President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac to immediately provide assistance to the families of two Filipino seafarers killed in a drone attack on their vessel in the northern Black Sea.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Tuesday the president instructed the Department of Migrant Workers and other concerned agencies to ensure the victims’ families receive all assistance available under the law.
“The President instructed Secretary Hans Cacdac to immediately reach out to the affected families and ensure that all legally available assistance is provided to the families of the Filipino seafarers who died,” Castro said during a press briefing.
Castro also warned local manning agencies and foreign principals that they could face sanctions if authorities find they violated existing government regulations.
“If they are found to have violated the rules, local manning agencies and foreign principals could have their licenses revoked,” she said.
The Department of Migrant Workers confirmed Monday that two Filipino seafarers were killed after their vessel came under a drone attack in the northern Black Sea.
Castro also welcomed the Department of Foreign Affairs’ report that four Philippine-registered vessels had safely transited the Strait of Hormuz despite heightened regional tensions.
