The Department of Migrant Workers has signed a memorandum of agreement with the International Pro Bono Alliance Inc. to provide free legal assistance to overseas Filipino workers and their families.
The agreement, signed Monday at the DMW Central Office in Mandaluyong City, aims to improve access to legal services and strengthen protection against illegal recruitment, human trafficking and other labor-related concerns.
Under the partnership, the International Pro Bono Alliance, a non-government organization composed of legal professionals, will provide free legal consultations, legal advice and legal representation to OFWs and their families.
The alliance will also support the DMW through capacity-building programs, advocacy initiatives, policy collaboration and by expanding access to free legal services through its international network of partners.
Representing Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac during the signing were Undersecretaries Darlene Pajarito and Bernard Olalia, and Director Romelson Abbang.
Speaking at the ceremony, Undersecretary Pajarito said the partnership reflects the shared commitment of both organizations to protect the rights, welfare and interests of overseas Filipino workers and ensure they have access to legal assistance whenever needed.
